Bio

My name is Matthew Sloane.

Through the lens of integral coaching, I guide others to live more deeply and authentically. Through the lens of storytelling, I share my personal experience for the benefit of others.

Like many parents, I want to lead by example, live in greater alignment with my authentic self, and be more present for my family.

And yet, as a father, husband, & man, I experience the relentlessness of imperfect parenting in my own unique way. Here’s what I know from sitting in an ongoing support circle with fathers every two weeks since 2021…

Fathers experience parenting through the physiological and cultural lenses of being men.

For me, when I am in the role of father, I am in a dojo: I’m not in control of others, I get a workout, sometimes I am tired or overwhelmed, and sometimes the lessons include living on very little sleep. Like a dojo, Fatherhood can be a place for immersive learning, experiential learning and active meditation—if the intention is there.

A bit more about me…

  • I have been a father since 2016 and a husband since 2013.

  • Since 2004, I have participated in a men’s group, and gone on to facilitate both my own men’s group as well as some online groups within the Rad Dad Collective.

  • I am a trained Integral Coach and author of short, illustrated, heart-opening men's fiction for book clubs, men's groups, dad groups, and male studies courses.

  • In other words, #menswork #husbandswork #dadswork

My core purpose in life is to give voice to my inner world and help others do the same.

Books

Years ago, I wrote and illustrated my first book, Hiding Inside a Man (available November 2024), about my inner journey from boyhood to manhood, acknowledged by co-founder Bill Kauth of the Mankind Project as "soul poetry of worthy masculinity."

The piece is intended as a meditation space for others to engage with their own explorations and to provide gentle, affirmative guidance through the journey from boyhood to manhood.

I’ll let subscribers know when it is ready for purchase.

My next book, Alexandra & the Moon, is a story for mindful fathers raising spirited daughters. I am currently working to complete the illustrations before publishing.

Through this very personal tale, fathers will find validation, encouragement, and inspiration to become more emotionally resilient for themselves and their families.

I’ll let subscribers know when it becomes available.
